Access Agency Sponsors Credit Workshop

The ACCESS Community Action Agency will be sponsoring a credit workshop on Tuesday, September 18 at 6:00 pm at the main office located at 1315 Main Street in Willimantic. The two hour workshop will be offered by Sheryle McMillan from Consumer Credit Counseling Services and will address credit scoring. The CCCS education department is providing this workshop on how to improve credit ratings which includes a free credit report and individual, confidential counseling to help people improve their scores at no charge to participants. The program called "Chasing a Better Score" is designed to identify and address underlying elements that create financial problems. It focuses on critical issues where timely education can help consumers avoid financial problems. The program will include the opportunity to receive a free scored credit report and free score counseling by telephone after the workshop from a specialist.
Participants will receive the following materials:

  •  "Do You Know Your Credit Score?" consumer brochure
  •  "Do You Know How to Choose a Loan?" consumer brochure
  •  Understanding Money and Credit Workbook
  • Your Credit Report Reference Guide Workbook

Participants who have computer access can also participate in the free My Score Plus interactive program. This program simulates changes in the score when information is improved. Participants can use this computer simulation for a 30-day period following the counseling.
